A Weekend of Triumph and Unity - Reflecting on MLG’s Journey at the MACA Cancer 200 Ride
Team MLG proudly participated in the MACA Cancer 200 Ride for Perkins, raising over $200,000 to fuel cancer research efforts.

MLG is proud to share a sponsorship commitment of $100,000 over the next five years to the Lions Cancer Institute (WA) Inc. This significant contribution has been instrumental in funding the Institute’s new custom-made mobile skin screening Unit, enhancing its capacity to provide free skin cancer screenings across Western Australia’s remote communities.
The Lions Cancer Institute has been dedicated to offering life-saving, free skin cancer screenings to individuals in rural and remote areas of Western Australia. Their mobile facilities travel from big cities to remote towns, ensuring all community members can access essential skin health services.
“I think it is providing a very necessary service, particularly for the country people who can’t get to a screener, and quite often can’t get to a GP to get their skin checked.”
Phil Chinnery, Chairman of the Lions Cancer Institute.
The new custom-made facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and improved accessibility features, allowing the Institute to reach more individuals and provide screenings in areas that were previously challenging to access.
The Lions Cancer Institute’s mobile skin screening program has been a cornerstone of their efforts to combat skin cancer, offering free screenings to the general public with their mobile facilities. This initiative not only aids in early detection but also raises awareness about the importance of regular skin checks.
“MLG funds have enabled renovations and extensions of these Skin Cancer Screening Coaches. Such refurbishments have provided a more comfortable, private and purpose built space in which the Institutes Staff can conduct their life saving work. It has also seen an increase in the number of individuals that are able to make use of this service. MLG is spread right across WA and is therefore committed to giving back to the communities that support us.”
Michelle Leahy, Community Engagement Officer
Beyond screening services, the Lions Cancer Institute plays a crucial role in supporting cancer research at Curtin University. They run a program to assist PhD and Honors students studying in cancer-related fields through grants supported by the Karen & Joshua Chinnery Memorial Scholarship, The Lions-Lotus Scholarship into Liver Cancer and the Colin Beauchamp and Sue Goddard Scholarship into Melanoma research. These students utilise data collected from the screening services to conduct research and publish academic papers. To date, six PhD and three Honors students have successfully completed their studies, contributing to the ongoing fight against skin cancer.
At MLG, we believe that corporate responsibility extends beyond business operations—it’s about actively contributing to the well-being of our communities. By supporting the Lions Cancer Institute, we are helping provide vital healthcare services, raise awareness about skin cancer prevention, and contribute to the ongoing fight against cancer.
