Giving Back Together at MLG
As the year draws to a close, we are proud to reflect on the moments that brought our people together beyond the day-to-day operations.
At MLG, our focus on operational excellence is matched by an ongoing investment in people, culture, and long-term engagement. We recognise that sustainable performance is built not only on what happens on site, but on the strength of the families and communities that support our workforce.
Daddy Strikes Gold and Mummy Strikes Gold are purpose-led children’s books created to acknowledge those families, while helping young children understand the role their parent plays in the mining industry in a positive, age-appropriate way.

Our books form part of MLG’s broader people and culture approach, designed to strengthen connection across our business and extend that connection beyond the workplace. They recognise the unique demands placed on families, particularly those navigating FIFO and remote work arrangements, and aim to create a meaningful resource that families can return to over time.
Inclusivity sits at the heart of the stories. By creating both Daddy Strikes Gold and Mummy Strikes Gold, the books celebrate the many different families that make up our workforce and ensure children can see their own experiences reflected on the page. They also recognise the growing role of women in mining, helping normalise the idea that mums, just as much as dads, head off to site each day. In doing so, the books support a more inclusive view of our industry, one where every child can feel proud of their family and the work they do.
At their core, these books reflect MLG’s values and our commitment to building a strong, connected culture alongside operations.

Written for children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other young family members, each story follows a parent through a typical day on site. From travelling to work and preparing safely, to operating equipment and returning home, the books introduce children to the environments, people, and machines that underpin our industry.
The stories are deliberately warm, distinctly Australian, and emotionally intelligent. They reinforce themes of safety, teamwork, and care, helping children understand where their parent goes, what they do, and why it matters.
For many families, particularly those impacted by time away, work can feel distant or abstract. Storytelling provides a simple but powerful way to bridge that gap, turning complex operations into something familiar, reassuring, and relatable, while reinforcing that no matter where work takes us, we always return to what matters most, family.

The books were developed through a considered creative process to ensure authenticity and alignment with the MLG brand. Illustrations reference real equipment, projects, and site environments, while characters reflect the diversity of our workforce.
Our Marketing team worked closely on the final artwork to ensure the books deliver a polished, high-quality finish while remaining accessible to young readers. The result is a credible representation of our business, seen through a child-friendly lens.
Across the pages, children are gently introduced to the realities of our operations, including travel to and from site, safety practices and PPE, and the equipment that supports our mining and civil projects. These elements are presented simply and accurately, reinforcing responsibility, teamwork, and pride in the work being done.

Daddy Strikes Gold and Mummy Strikes Gold reflect a simple but important belief: strong businesses are built on strong people, and strong people are supported by strong families.
While our work delivers outcomes on site, these books reinforce that our people and their families remain central to everything we do.
As the year draws to a close, we are proud to reflect on the moments that brought our people together beyond the day-to-day operations.
