NTI Training Program

Overview

MLG’s New to Industry (NTI) programs are designed to transform new entrants into skilled operators in Australia’s mining and haulage sectors. With specialised Road Train and Dump Trucking programs, NTI offers a structured, practical training pathway over four months, responding to both industry demand and workforce development needs. This program enhances employee retention and supports participants’ career advancement with industry-focused upskilling.

The NTI training journey consists of three phases, each targeting critical skills and experience milestones. These phases ensure trainees build confidence, competence, and readiness to work independently. Our goal is to provide a safe, efficient and supported training experience that leads to long-term employment opportunities in the industry.

Training Stages

From Foundation to Full Competency

Phase 1 – Foundation Skills (Perth)
This initial 10-day instructor-led module introduces trainees to foundational skills and essential industry knowledge. The module covers workplace inductions, hazard management, and machinery operations, laying a safe and practical groundwork for hands-on learning. Trainees also receive orientation on safety protocols, machinery basics, and industry standards, providing a strong start to their journey.

Phase 2 – Skills Development (On-Site)
Phase 2 is a 14-day intensive on-site training where participants work alongside experienced subject matter experts. This phase provides hands-on experience with Prime Movers, Loaders, and Dump Trucks, with trainees logging their progress in a phase-specific logbook. During this period, participants gain a deep understanding of daily operations and hands-on practice with complex machinery, furthering their practical knowledge under real-world conditions.

Phase 3 – Skills Consolidation and Competency
The final phase focuses on helping trainees achieve full independence and competency. By consolidating their skills in actual work environments, trainees become confident in operating machinery independently and safely. Upon completing this phase, they will be fully equipped to transition into their roles with minimal supervision and ready to contribute effectively to our teams.
